Geminid Meteor Shower 2026
Meteor Shower
The Geminid meteor shower originates from the asteroid 3200 Phaethon. The asteroid was discovered in 1983.

The Geminids are active from December 4 – 17, 2026, peaking on the night of December 13 and the morning of December 14 with up to 150 meteors per hour under ideal conditions.

Only a thin waxing crescent Moon, about 14% illuminated, will be up on peak night, so moonlight should cause little interference.
This meteor shower is best observed if you are patient and watch from after midnight until just before dawn, from a dark location far from city lights. You don’t need special equipment such as a telescope or binoculars, just your naked eyes and good weather! The radiant of this meteor shower is in the constellation Gemini, but meteors can appear anywhere in the sky.
